When Parvati was praying to Lord Shiva to get married to him he decided to test her faith. He took the avtar of Brahmachari and went to meet her. She welcomed him and told him why she was doing such a hard penance. At this point the Brahmachari asked Parvati to stop wasting time on praying to a man like Shiva.
He also abused Shiva calling him varied names. Parvati got very upset and asked him to go away. When he would not stop she said that she would enter the fire and burn herself of he did not stop. On seeing her love and devotion Lord Shiva revealed his actual form to her. He told her that he was very happy to see her trust and would want to marry her. Parvati then asked Shiva to ask her father for her hand in marriage.
