पेरियार आणि आंबेडकर

तथाकथित सुधारकांच्या पंक्तीत आंबेडकर आणि फुले जोडपे हे नेहमीच ठळक पणे दिसत आले आहे. मराठी भाषिकांना तर ह्या दोन्ही लोकांच्या बाबतीत भरपूर माहिती सुद्धा आहे. हल्ली काही मंडळींनी ह्यांत पेरियर ह्या माणसाला सुद्धा घुसवले आहे. अमेरिकेत आंबेडकर – पेरियार सोसायटी, महाराष्ट्रांत आंबेडकरांच्या बाजूला पेरियार ह्यांची तसबीर इत्यादी गोष्टी दिसून येतात.

आंबेडकरांच्या सावलीत ह्या निवडुंगाला मोठे करण्याचा प्रयत्न राष्ट्रीय स्तरावर होत आहे आणि तामिळ भाषा समाजात नसल्याने आम्ही लोक त्याला बळी सुद्धा पडत आहोत म्हणून हा लेखन प्रपंच.

आंबेडकर ह्यांच्या विचारांशी मतभेद असले तरी आंबेडकर त्यांच्या सार्वजनिक जीवनात सज्जन पणेच वागले असे आम्ही सहज म्हणून शकतो. इतरांना मारहाण करणे, जिवंत मारणे, त्यांची तुलना पशुशी करणे किंवा त्यांच्या स्त्रियांबद्दल अश्लील टिप्पणी करणे असे आंबेडकर ह्यांनी कधीही केले नाही. अश्या आंबेडकरांच्या बाजूला पेरियर सारख्या नीच आणि हिंसक माणसाला ठेवणे पूर्णता चुकीचे आहे.

“The Jews are only interested in themselves, and nobody else. They somehow contrive to have the rulers in their pocket, participate in governance and conspire to torture and suck the lives out of other citizens in order that they live (in comfort).”

वरील ज्यू विरोधी ओळी नाझी लोकांच्या काळांत लिहिल्या गेल्या होत्या. त्या पुढील लाईन पाहू

“Are they not comparable to the Brahmins who too have no responsibility but have the rulers in their pocket, have entered the ruling dispensation and been lording over (all of us)?”

तर ह्या ओळी पेरियार ह्यांनी लिहिल्या होत्या. ज्यांत त्यांनी ब्राह्मणांची तुलना हिटलर च्या दृष्टिकोनात ज्यू लोकांशी केली.

आता कुणी म्हणेल कि त्यांना ब्राम्हण व्यक्ती नसून “ब्राम्हण वादाशी” भांडण उकरून काढायचे होते. पण त्यांनीच ह्यावर आपले मत स्पष्ट केले.

Who do you hate? The Brahmin or Brahminism? What is Brahminism?’ – for questions such as these, my reply is Brahminism came from Brahmins and hence it is the Brahmins who should be annihilated. It is like asking whether you hate thievery or the thief. It is because one is a thief, one indulges in thievery. When someone says he hates thievery, it means he hates the thief, too, doesn’t it? Thus, [my stand is] Brahminism grew out of the Brahmin and I am striving to annihilate the root.

आंबेडकर ह्यांनी स्वतःला ब्राह्मणांना विकले आहे असे त्यांचे म्हणणे होते:

“The Brahmins had paid him a price. The price is this: he asked for 10% reservation and they gave him 15%. They knew that even if they gave him 25%, not even three or four percent of qualified people would be available [among the Dalits]. He accepted the Constitution written by the Brahmins and signed on the dotted lines. He did not think about others.”
